About The Event
The Pork Pie Charity Run is a biennial fundraising road trip for all Mini owners, based loosely on the route taken by the Blondini Gang in the original movie.
The first run took place in 2009 with 36 teams making the trip from Kaitaia to Invercargill over 5 days. The subsequent 8 runs have seen participant numbers increase to a 60 car maximum with the run extended to 6 days on the road. Participant numbers are now limited to 50 teams due to availability of accommodation and other logistical issues. Entries consistently oversubscribe in just minutes!!
Historically the Run has raised funds for Starship Hospital, Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand and KidsCan. To date across all previous events over $2,000,000 has been raised, with a record $468,000 raised in 2025 for KidsCan.
A new recipient charity has been chosen for the 2027 run – Life Flight Trust.
